Happy Safer Internet Day from the Maltese Safer Internet Centre!

The Maltese Safer Internet Centre BeSmartOnline! has created a special video to celebrate the 19th edition of Safer Internet Day on Tuesday, 8 February 2022.

The video explores some of the most common concerns when it comes to online safety, and compares the perspectives of four adults and three young people. The interviewees were asked six questions related to fake news, cyberbullying, privacy, being respectful online, harmful content, and cyber-stalking.

You can watch the video below, available with English subtitles.

Furthermore, Youth Ambassador George Vella has shared his thoughts on the process behind the creation, production and editing of this project.

Together with Samara and Yevgeny, friends of mine that are also Youth Ambassadors and the BeSmartOnline! team, we came up with the idea to create a video, seeing how Youth and Adults see the internet differently. Yevgeny, Samara and I came up with the phrases/words. The production of this video was left in the Youth’s hands. As Youth Ambassadors, it was really motivating to know that our opinions were not only being listened to, but shared with an audience. The video mainly focuses on adult’s and youth’s first reaction when they hear internet related phrases. It’s also interesting to see what phrases they agreed or disagreed with each other.
The editing of a video like this was especially interesting, as this was the first video I edited, which wasn’t just for a hobby, but to raise awareness on something we can all agree on, how despite our differences, we must stand together for a better internet!

George Vella, Youth Ambassador (Malta)
