The BIK Youth Panel 2020 is getting close!
The 12th edition of the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) Youth Panel is underway and will culminate with an online session at Safer Internet Forum (SIF) 2020.
This year, no less than 48 young people involved with national Safer Internet Centres (SICs) from all over Europe will represent the voices of the youth on online safety, digital literacy and internet governance issues.
Since October 2020, through a series of online meetings, participants have been actively preparing their session by sharing their respective perspectives on better and safer internet issues with their peers, agreeing on key themes, and preparing awareness materials - in particular videos - on these topics.
The selected themes are: “Fake or real?”; “Human and ethical”; “Mental health and disabilities”; “Future internet I: sexual education”; “Future internet II: social media platforms”; and “Future internet III: teacher education”.
Traditionally, the BIK Youth Panel is organised as a face-to-face event, in the days preceding Safer Internet Forum. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s edition will take place online as well, on Wednesday, 18 and Thursday, 19 November 2020. During these two days, the young people will be able to finalise their awareness materials, and they will present and discuss these with experts from the Alliance to better protect minors online. The outcomes of this work will then be presented during Safer Internet Forum, during a youth-led session on Tuesday, 24 November 2020, from 10:00 to 11:45 CET.

Just like with most events this year, Safer Internet Forum (SIF) 2020 took place online, but this did not stop the Austrian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) from inviting young people to become part of the safer internet community. The difference was that instead of 20 young people from all over Europe being usually invited to Brussels, this time almost 50 young people could participate in several events.
